The 31st Annual “Remember When Dances” will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, at Jammers Blue Note Ballroom, north of Bemidji on Bemidji Road Northeast, also known as Old Highway 71. The “Remember When Dances” will take music lovers and dancers back to the Big Band Era in two music-filled evenings presented by Bemidji State University jazz groups. Entertaining throughout both evenings will be approximately 20 musicians and vocalists, mostly students from the Bemidji State University Department of Music. Music will include actual charts that the big bands played, including standards by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tom Dorsey and Les Brown. In addition to the Big Band classics, the musicians will perform other dance favorites such as ballads, cha-chas, waltzes and Dixieland numbers. Several vocalists will also perform music from the swing era. Steve Konecne, professor of instrumental music at Bemidji State, will direct the musicians and vocalists. Admission for each evening is $7 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and free for BSU students with a valid ID. Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds from the event support the Joe Plumer Jazz Scholarship, tours and the purchase of new music for the groups. For more information, call the Department of Music at 755-2915.
